The “Earth Cycle” acrylic painting framed in a natural wood frame measures 21 x 27 inches. My inspiration for this piece was honouring the tiny natural cycle of life found on the ground in the forest. I wanted the art to depict a vibrant forest floor scene and decaying trees, featuring a variety of details that bring the forest floor to life:
Foreground: Bright red Indian paintbrush flowers and delicate white blooms are surrounded by lush green foliage, ferns, and moss.
Middle ground: Realistic fly agaric mushrooms (red caps with white spots) grow from the mossy terrain near decaying tree logs, adding depth and contrast to the painting.
Background: A serene wooded area with tree trunks stands in shadow, creating a sense of calm and mystery. A swirling tree stump detail draws the viewer’s eye inward.
Other elements: Subtle details, such as fallen branches, tiny yellow wildflowers, and a small frog near the bottom right, enhance the composition and realism.
The frame is smooth and slightly beveled, complementing the natural theme of the artwork. The piece has a rich colour palette, emphasizing greens, reds, and earthy tones.
